How to make your own custom printed labels
Custom printed labels are an original alternative to standard types of labels. If you want to add a special touch to your correspondence, CDs, DVDs, invitations, memos or any other thing, you can add your personal touch by creating a unique and original design.
If you’re tired of standard templates or designs that are simply too common that they’ve turned into cliches, there’s no rule to say you have to use them. Create your own designs, texts and templates, and opt for custom printed labels for more originality. And more affordable prices too, if you decide to print them yourself.
Sure, you can choose from a very wide variety of label templates, materials, shapes, sizes, colors etc., but if you don’t find anything to match your taste and preferences, it’s not all lost. You can either make your own labels at home, just how you like them, or go to any print shop and order custom printed labels based on your design. They can be printed either digitally or through conventional printing methods, the choice is yours.
You’d like to do them yourself, but you don’t know how? Well, all you need is a computer, a printer, a version of Microsoft Word installed on your computer, and plenty of imagination. Now, to get you started, here are some basic instructions for creating your own custom printed labels in Microsoft Word.
If you have the 2002 or 2003 version of Word, go to the Tools menu, click on Letters and Mailings, then select Envelopes and Labels. Click Options on the Labels tab, and select your printer type in the Printer Information field. After you’ve entered your printer type, click New Label and type the name that you want your new custom printed labels to have (type it in the Label Name box). Then go to the Label Height and Label Width boxes and enter the exact height and width measurements you want on the labels. Also, you will see two boxes named Number across and Number down. These refer to the number of custom printed labels across and down one page, so fill in the boxes according to your preferences. With the Top margin, Side margin, Vertical pitch and Horizontal pitch boxes, you can adjust the margin and pitch settings. Once you’ve got all that settled, click ok and start printing your very own custom printed labels.
Creating custom printed labels with Microsoft Word 2007 is not that different. Go to the Mailings tab, Create → Labels, then click Options on the Labels tab. From Label options, select New Label. Just as with the 2002 or 2003 versions, type in a name for your custom printed labels, enter the height and width measurements, the number across and number down, adjust the margins and pitches if necessary and then click OK.

It’s as simple as that! And the great thing about making your own custom printed labels is that you actually come off cheaper. Be careful to choose the right type of label material according to your type of printer, design your labels and start working. Good luck!
